Sweet, Warm Neroli

Do you know where Neroli oil comes from? It’s actually an essential oil produced from the blossom of the bitter orange tree! Neroli oil is extracted by the process of steam distillation; due to its extracting process it's usually more expensive than other essential oils.

Neroli has a distinctive, spicy aroma with sweet and flowery notes with a whiff of citrus and honey. It is said the oil has a balancing effect on those that wear it.

History

The story goes that in the 17th century the Princess of Nerola, Italy introduced the essence of bitter orange tree into perfume, and would douse herself in the scent, as well as use it in her baths and in her gloves. She was dubbed "Princess Nerola" and the term "neroli" has been used to describe this essence ever since.

Skin Benefits

Neroli also has properties that can aid in skin health. Studies indicate that neroli oil has antimicrobial, anti-fungal, and antioxidant properties. It can help reduce acne breakouts, reduce fine lines, heal skin irritations, and treat rashes. It can stimulate skin cells to regenerate, helping to diminish age spots, scars, and stretch marks.

It's an anti-inflammatory, meaning it's also great for general redness, and may help with rosacea.

Health Benefits

When used in aromatherapy, neroli can help quiet the mind and ease stress. Some evidence suggests it has benefits around depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, PMS and menopausal symptoms. It is said it can reduce the levels of cortisol in the brain, and a study in animals found it has components which might make it beneficial for reducing seizures and convulsions.
